The Cripple of Inishmaan
by Martin McDonagh
Directed by Terri Mastrobuono
Set on a remote Irish island in the 1930s, The Cripple of Inishmaan follows Billy, a disabled teenage boy who desperately wants to make his mark as an actor.
I relied on thrifted knits, worn-out sweaters, and a little bit of distressing to create the sense that the people of Inishmaan rely on handmade textiles and re-used garments due to their extreme isolation. Characters also reappeared in the same sweater or shawl paired with a different outfit in other scenes.
